My Experience
I was completely burnt out and felt like finding time and energy to devote to eating healthy and being active was time I didn’t have. When I wasn’t working, I was so exhausted I didn’t have the energy to do anything. I felt like losing weight and getting healthy were impossible.
Somewhere in my life I’d been taught that the needs of others were more important than my own needs and I was literally sacrificing my health, often for colleagues and clients that didn’t appreciate it anyway.
Now I come first. I know that I can’t be my best for my children, my team or my clients if l’m burnt out from always putting them first. I’ve learned that it’s ok to turn away business if I don’t have the capacity to handle it or it’s not aligned with my values. I’ve learned that it’s ok to say no to people and if someone has a problem with that then they are likely someone I don’t want in my life anyway. Most of all, I’ve learned that I deserve good health and that I was being a martyr by sacrificing my own well being to prioritize the needs of everyone else.
The WHY
The WHY
Achieving the work-life balance you want and prioritizing your health includes setting boundaries and limits on your work hours, scheduling time for exercise or other physical activities, taking breaks, establishing a consistent sleep routine and practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga.
It’s very important to communicate your boundaries and needs with your employer and colleagues, and to prioritize some self-care activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. This can help to reduce stress, prevent burnout, and improve overall well-being. A balanced lifestyle can lead to increased productivity, better relationships, and a greater sense of fulfillment!
By prioritizing our time, setting boundaries, and being mindful of our choices, we can create a fulfilling life that includes both career and personal pursuits. Remember, finding balance is an ongoing process, so be patient and kind to yourself as you work towards creating a life that works for you.
